Edit Receipt Footer
(Windows Mobile)
Note: The information on this page is for Windows Mobile devices. The information for
Android and iOS devices is located here.
The footer information that prints at the end of each receipt can be
customized to suit your specific needs or tastes. The receipt footer data resides in a plain text file
on the device. The file can be edited using any plain text file editor such as Notepad, WordPad or Word.
File location:
\Java\pocketflash\files
File name:
salesreceipt.txt
Editing the footer file:
Two of the simplest ways to edit the file are as follows:
- If your device has Pocket Word installed (a.k.a. Word Mobile), you can make edits to the file using the
handheld device.
- To open the file for editing, simply navigate to the above folder using the device's File Explorer program
and then tap on the file name in the list. Making changes to the file with Pocket Word is easier if the
word-wrap feature is turned off (View > Wrap to Window).
- To save any changes made, simply close the Pocket Word program by tapping on the OK button located in the
upper right corner of the title bar (to the right of the clock). Note: It is imperative that Pocket Word
is closed; otherwise, the file will be locked by Pocket Word and will not be accessible to PocketFlash.
- If you have access to a desktop PC with ActiveSync capabilities, you can make edits to the file using a
desktop PC text editor such as Notepad.
- Insert the device into the ActiveSync cradle and then copy the file to a folder on the desktop PC.
- Using a desktop PC text editor, make the desired changes to the file.
- After completing and saving your changes, copy the edited file back to the handheld device. The file
must be copied to its original location on the device as specified above.
Testing the footer file:
The Test action on the Set Printer Model window includes the receipt footer
as a part of its output. After changing the footer file, you should verify your changes by printing a
test on your configured printer.
Important considerations:
- The maximum number of horizontal characters per line varies from one type of printer to another. For
example, for the Symbol PrintPAD, the footer can contain up to 92 characters per line. For other
printers, the number of characters per line could be more or it could be less. Printing a Test on
the Set Printer Model window will help you determine the horizontal limits for your
specific printer.
- If, after customizing the receipt footer, a DPS PocketFlash™ install is run on the device, the
customized file will be overwritten with a version of the file that is included in the install. You
should therefore consider making a backup copy of your customized file so that you can more easily reinstate
your edits after the install processing is completed.
